AAP has petitioned for the disqualification of seven MPs who quit to join BJP, citing defection laws and seeking swift action from the Rajya Sabha chairman

Chief minister Bhagwant Mann had termed the defectors “gaddars” on Friday, accusing them of betraying the mandate of Punjab’s people.

Polling for 152 assembly seats was held in the first phase on April 23, while the remaining 142 seats will go to polls in the second phase on April 29.

The moves mark a coordinated attempt by the AAP to blunt the jolt from the sudden exit by some of its key leaders less than a year before Punjab polls.

Ravneet Singh Bittu, who joined BJP from Congress in 2024, had spoken just last week about how there was “no need” for Chadha to join the party.
